Samsung's SmartThings Can Match Your Home Devices to Your Sleep Schedule

The latest update also includes support for Matter 1.4, meaning SmartThings can connect to water heaters and other energy products.

Samsung's latest update to its smart home system can help you figure out if things like the temperature of your home is hindering your sleep at night. And that's only one of the changes to the SmartThings platform announced Wednesday.

The new features also include support for the Matter 1.4 smart home standard, meaning you can connect devices like solar panels, home batteries, heat pumps and water heaters to your SmartThings system. 

"SmartThings' latest update represents our ongoing efforts to make the smart home more intuitive, connected and personalized," Jaeyeon Jung, executive vice president and head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics, said in a release.

These latest updates foucsed on sleep sleep connect SmartThings to certain compatible Samsung Galaxy devices, which is currently phones running One UI 7.0 or later and Samsung Health 6.29 or later. The system will use reports on factors like the temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels and light intensity to make recommendations to improve your sleep environment. If you have a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring device, it can automatically adjust the environment based on your sleep and wake times, like turning your lights and TV off at bedtime. 

Other changes include:

  • Automation routines based on recurring schedules, like changing the color of smart lights for family birthdays. 
  • Broadcasting voice messages through SmartThings-connected speakers with real-time delivery.
  • Easier onboarding of certain third-party smart home devices.
