According to details drummed up by Twitter source @upleaks, a phone being called the HTC A55 could find a place in the Desire family of handsets. Interestingly, the specifications are more robust than a typical midrange Desire phone.
The A55 will allegedly feature a 5.5-inch 2K display, a 20-megapixel rear camera, and 32GB internal storage. On the front, we could see either a 13-megapixel lens or 4-UltraPixel camera.
HTC will reportedly employ a MediaTek's octa-core 64-bit processor with 3GB RAM to keep things humming along. As far as software is concerned, the A55 is rumored to carry Android 5.0 with HTC Sense 7.0.
Other tidbits include BoomSound speakers, Bluetooth 4.1, a dual-SIM variant, and a 3,000mAh battery. Like other HTC phones, we could see at least three color options: white rose gold, brown gold, and gray.
All in all, these specifications are nearly identical to the so-called " Hima Ace" that has been floating around for a few months. Initially, there was a bit of confusion over which phone would be the flagship -- One M9 or Hima Ace -- or if both would represent HTC's 2015 flagships. Things are shaping up to look like these two high-end models popping up in separate markets.
HTC declined to comment on the A55 rumor.
HTC has a press event slated for March 1 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where we anticipate the One M9 flagship to debut. Stick with CNET for fresh news on the ground.
