Xfinity customers in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia and other areas on Tuesday were hit with outages to their internet and phone services. While it didn't appear to be a complete outage for all Comcast Xfinity customers, the issue was widespread enough that Downdetector showed outages ranging from Indiana to south Florida.
By around noon ET, things were getting back to normal, according to Comcast, which blamed a "network issue" as the cause of the problems.
"We have addressed the issue and service is now restoring for impacted customers, as we continue to investigate the root cause," the spokesperson said.
Earlier in the morning, the company had posted on Twitter, saying that "some customers are experiencing intermittent service interruptions."
Some customers are experiencing intermittent service interruptions as a result of a network issue. Our teams are actively working to bring impacted customers back online, as we continue to investigate. We apologize to those who have been affected.
