If you've been holding your breath for an electric sedan with the soul of a PS5 Pro, I've got great news. Sony Honda Mobility announced at its CES 2025 press conference that preorders are officially open for its upcoming Afeela 1 EV. The autonomy and entertainment-focused sedan will retail for $89,900 for the Origin spec and $102,900 for the upgraded Signature model.
It "A-Feelas" (ahem) like we've seen Sony's upcoming EV rollout at CES for years now. The Vision-S concept car first hit the stage in 2020, with the Afeela nameplate being announced in 2023. The joint-venture automaker has since used a PS5 Dual Sense controller to pilot the car onstage and, this year, summoned the EV via voice command to highlight the vehicle's Afeela Personality Agent -- an AI-powered digital assistant that you can talk to while in and outside of the car and have it talk back.
However, the biggest news Monday was the announcement of pricing and the opening of preorders in anticipation of spring 2026 deliveries. The top spec $102,900 Signature spec will be the first to arrive with the full complement of tech and options -- from dual rear seat entertainment, 21-inch wheels and a selection of gray, black and white exterior and interior colorways. The $89,900 Origin models drop the rear seat screens, shrink to 19-inch wheels and you can have it in any color you want, as long as it's black. Deliveries for the less expensive spec start in 2027.
Either way you go, Sony is offering a 91 kilowatt-hour battery with up to 300 miles of estimated range. NACS charging is standard at up to 150 kW and every example will roll out with the Afeela Intelligent Drive assistance suite and Afeela Personal Assistant. Of course, Sony's massive pillar-to-pillar dashboard display is also standard, powered by Unreal Engine graphics for maps, driver aid systems and the main user interface.
Sony tells us that the Afeela EV will feature 40 sensors for its driver aid systems and will feature what it calls "one-touch, end-to-end" autonomous driving. Simply hop in and tell the car where to go and it will get you there while you consume content on the big screen. At least that's the vision, the automaker's pre-order website currently only specifies Level 2 autonomy.
Interested parties can hold their place in line with a refundable $200 deposit on Sony Honda Mobility's Afeela reservation site. Too rich for your blood? (Or live outside of California?) You can still drive and experience Sony and Honda's EV in Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 5 for a lot less moolah.
