Etihad coach
Like the other Middle East airlines, the interior of Etihad's planes are quite lovely.
16 hours though...
A round trip coach seat will cost you around $1,100 round-trip, though it varies a lot depending on when you want to fly.
Entertainment
Seat-back entertainment is common, and usually free, on most long-distance flights.
Business class
Spend a bit more, and you'll have a lot more room. These lay flat. Sleep those miles away.
Dallas to Sydney
Qantas will take you from Dallas to Sydney in, on average, 16 hours and 50 minutes.
Qantas coach
I don't know about you, but if the seat next to me was empty, I'd be sprawled out on it.
Premium economy
This is Qantas's Premium Economy section, which looks nicer than some business class seating I've experienced.
First class
The lush first class seating. These seats are at the front of the plane on the lower deck. The upper deck is mostly business class.
Coach
The main coach cabin on a Qantas A380-800 lower deck has a three-four-three layout. Even in Economy this is a pretty expensive ticket, around $1,866 round-trip.
A380
The A380 has a range of 8,500 nautical miles or about 9,755 miles or 15,700km, which is why it's the plane of choice for two of the longest commercial flights.
787 mockup
Qantas will fly between Perth and London nonstop in 2018, which will likely be number three on this list, depending on when several other long haul routes (ahem) take off. This is a CG representation of what the coach section will look like.
Johannesburg to Atlanta
Delta flies from Johannesburg to Atlanta in just under 17 hours. I've flown this route, and it's as long as it seems.
Big engines
Delta uses a Boeing 777-200LR for this flight, with each GE90 engine putting out incredible amounts of thrust, between 110,000 and 115,300 pounds -- or between 489 and 513 kilonewtons.
Delta 777
Delta charges around $1,137 for a round-trip from Joburg to Atlanta and back. If 17 hours seems like a lot, I flew from Cape Town to LA, with this flight in the middle. That was nearly 24 hours in the air.
Auckland to Dubai
Emirates will get you from Auckland to Dubai in an estimated 17 hours, 25 minutes.
Biggest plane
Emirates uses an A380 to get you there, with fares starting at $1,729 round-trip.
Coach
I've flown in an Emirates A380 on a different route. It was quite pleasant, though perhaps not as much as these two make it seem.
Business class
Emirates does business (shown here) and first class really well.
Bar
If you're paying for the big seats, you also get a walk-up bar, which is undeniably cool.
Auckland to Doha
Lasting just a little bit longer, is a Qatar fight from Auckland to Doha in about 17 hours, 40 minutes.
Arrival
The longest flight arrives in Auckland for the first time to a traditional water cannon salute. The eastbound flight to Doha is slightly faster than the westbound flight to Auckland.
Three by three by three
Qatar doesn't squeeze ten seats across in its Boeing 777-200LR in Economy, as some airlines do, opting for nine-across instead.
Room for a price
The flight doesn't come cheap, with coach fares starting at around $2,486, round-trip.
Big seats...
Splurge on a business class seat, and you've got a lot more room.
...and big screens
You've also got some sizeable screens to watch many, many, many movies on.
