Roll your own 'Star Wars' 3D: Chewbacca (photos)

First we made an Admiral Sackbar puppet. Now, Crave's crack team of Star Wars crafters aims for the deadliest Wookie in the galaxy. With the help of Bonnie Burton's we turn ordinary felt into a reusable Chewbacca tissue box cover.

Assuming you've still got your glue gun from last time, you might be able to pull this one off for $10. One-quarter yard of fake brown fur ought to run you about $4 to $7; the tissue box will cost around $3; and colored felt for Chewie's face should cost around $2 total--if you go for the individual squares at the craft store. You'll want to get felt colored in black, white, red, brown, and beige.

A bottle of craft glue will cost about $4, or a glue gun and sticks will go for $4 and $8. We say it's easier with the gun.

First, take your bolt of fake brown fur and measure it to fit the tissue box. Each tissue maker sizes its boxes slightly differently, so be sure to size the material properly and leave enough room to pull it off when the box is empty. Wookies don't like it when they get thrown in the trash compactor.

Next, cut out all the pieces to make Chewie, including his eyes, nose, and mouth. You'll of course want to make his distinctive bandolier.

Before you start gluing, double-check the sizing of the pieces to make sure they look good on the box.

Since many of the pieces are layered, including the eyes, mouth, and bandolier, you'll want to glue the layers together first before putting them on the fake fur.

You can glue the pieces onto the fake fur in any order, but if you start with the mouth you'll be able to angle the bandolier and place the eyes better.
