Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 looks awesome in 'Coral Blue'

This is the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Its stylus is its hallmark.

Without the S Pen, the Note would be just like the S7 Edge.

Redesigned, this year's S Pen has a tiny tip for greater accuracy.

While everyone else lugged a laptop to this meeting, I used the Note to jot to-do lists, update Google Docs and respond to email.

This is the second Note with curved sides (the Note Edge's right side sloped, but not the left).

It shines in gold and blue.

The Note's signature moves: drawing, writing and navigating with a stylus.

An iris scanner can unlock parts of your phone.

That ghosted circle on screen pulls up S Pen tools.

The pen rarely fell off the rounded sides.

It promises 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

This year, the shortcuts include a translation tool.

A closer look at the Note 5, left, and Note 7. Nope, you're not missing anything. There is no Note 6.

Now from the back,. The Note 5 is on the left.

Count them up! All 7 Note phones.

From left to right, the Samsung Galaxy Note, Note II, Note 3, Note 4, Note Edge, Note 5 -- no Note 6 -- and Note 7.

The S Pen has also evolved, from oldest (left) to newest (far right).

A new tool magnifies a portion of the screen.

The Note 7 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (for now...).

Expect an upgrade to Android Nougat.

Since the Note 7 has the same functionality as the Edge, you get these shortcut menus.

Including a sort of speed dial.

Samsung will sell the Note 7 in four colors around the world, but not every region will get every color.

The heart-rate monitor in the flash array is another mainstay.

A reflective backing means fingerprint buildup.

It also means colors shift with the light.

As with the Note 5, you can take a memo when the screen is off.

And now you can also pin it to the Always On display.

It's faint, but you can see your memo without turning on the phone -- great for shopping trips.

After an hour, the note unpins itself. You can repin it if you want. (It'd be great to set a time limit for yourself.)

The Note 7 gains another skill, too.

It can make an animated GIF from a video.

The Note 7 is water-resistant...

...and so is the S Pen, so you can write on the screen even if it's wet.

Great if you're caught in the rain.

The native camera app now responds to gestures.

That means you can swipe left and right for filters and effects.

Swipe up and down to switch between front and rear cameras.

The Note 7's bottom edge holds a headphone jack, USB-C port and the S Pen stylus.

You can see the symmetrical front and back sides.

The SIM tray pops out up top.

This is Samsung's first USB-C phone.

Unlike last year's Note 5, the pen won't get stuck in its holster if you put it in the wrong way.

Here it is with the USB-C charger cable.

Prepare to stock up on these.

Because of that USB-C port, the Note 7 won't connect into the existing Gear VR headset, so Samsung made a new one.

The updated Gear VR has interchangeable parts so you can use it with all compatible Samsung phones, Micro-USB and USB-C.
