Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is here, but it won't be coming to AT&T.

Looking for Google's new Pixel 9 Pro Fold? You won't find it at AT&T. The carrier has confirmed to CNET that it will not be offering Google's newest Pixel Fold to its customers.

The decision would be a blow to Google's device ambitions as it would make it harder for it to reach millions of AT&T customers. In its second-quarter earnings last month the carrier revealed that it had nearly 72 million postpaid phone users.

While purchasing devices unlocked and directly from manufacturers is common in other countries, many US customers still buy new devices directly from carriers to take advantage of upgrade deals and aggressive promotions.

AT&T sold last year's original Pixel Fold and still plans to sell much of the rest of Google's new lineup including the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and Pixel Watch 3. It will have deals for those looking to upgrade to one of those phones.

CNET has reached out to AT&T for additional details including if it will certify unlocked Pixel 9 Pro Folds to be used on its network.

The sequel to last year's Pixel Fold, the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold adopts many features found on Google's Pixel 9 series and looks to be a notable improvement. It has the company's latest Tensor G4 processor with 16GB of RAM and can take advantage of Google's new AI-focused features. It also weighs an ounce less than the original device while sporting a bigger front cover screen (now 6.3-inches) and inside display (now 8-inches).

While AT&T is sitting this one out, other carriers including Verizon and T-Mobile, will be selling Google's new foldable. The device will go on sale on September 4 and start at $1,799.
