Max's new hospital drama, The Pitt, is gritty and unflinching and has shaken up the medical procedural world with its jarring realism. Noah Wyle leads the series as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. The show was created by ER writer R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by ER showrunner John Wells. Considering Wyle's long-running role on the classic series, you can go ahead and compare The Pitt to its Emmy-winning predecessor but you'd be completely wrong in that assertion.

Instead of leaning into certain narrative expectations associated with the genre, The Pitt has charted its own course. Taking a page from 24, the Max series happens in "real time" and explores a day in the life of Dr. Robby and his staff at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital's emergency room. Each of the season's 15 episodes accounts for an hour in their tumultuous work shift.

Starring alongside Wyle in the expansive ensemble cast are Fiona Dourif as Dr. McKay, Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos, Gerran Howell as Whitaker, Taylor Dearden as Dr. King, Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Collins, Shabana Azeez as Javadi, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Mohan and Patrick Marron Ball as Dr. Langdon.

Needless to say, The Pitt has definitely left an impression. According to Deadline, the show will return for a second 15-episode season and it will take place over a Fourth of July weekend.

Medical dramas come with certain formulaic expectations, but The Pitt disrupts all of those. Be warned: Some of the stuff that goes on in this ER is not for the faint of heart. Read on to learn when to stream the season finale of The Pitt.
